Ling Jian

Following his critically acclaimed “Communist Sister” series, Ling Jian has continued exploring issues concerning communism and the role of women in a changing Chinese society. Through his paintings, Ling Jian also explores the evolution of Chinese cultural identity as a whole. Beautiful women are depicted in a provocative and highly sexual style, this contrasts sharply with the conservative and restrained image of the true communist female soldier. Indeed, Ling Jians works are replete with contrasts; Beauty and love contrast with violence and war, fragility and femininity contrast with power and masculinity. The paintings themselves are executed with incredible skill, in a highly realistic manner. Despite this semblance of reality however, Ling Jian’s subjects appear to be in a surreal world, populated by angels and rifles. Having participated in many solo and group exhibitions worldwide, Ling Jian is fast being recognised s one of China’s greatest talents.
